Employment


The employment department, a part of the larger commercial litigation department, is practised in advising employers and employees on day-to-day and atypical issues such as:

  • recruitment procedures (in particular regarding new legislation);
  • employee, disciplinary and grievance procedures;
  • enforcing restrictive covenants;
  • redundancy;
  • TUPE;
  • sex, race, disability, age and other forms of discrimination;
  • bullying, harassment and stress,
  • equal pay;
  • whistle blowing;
  • payments on the termination of employment and compromise agreements;
  • service contracts and terms and conditions of employment;
  • employment related policies and staff handbooks;
  • dealing with claims in the employment tribunal and High Court.

The team excels in both contentious and non-contentious work. Members of the team have specialist retail knowledge and are frequently invited to give seminars. Meet the team

Some of the team's recent work includes:

  • advising on a case of sex discrimination and unfair dismissal;
  • advising on a case of age discrimination and unfair dismissal;
  • advising a PLC on the summary dismissal of its CEO and his wife;
  • High Court litigation on a consultancy agreement;
  • dealing with an employment tribunal claim involving unfair dismissal, equal pay and sex discrimination; and
  • dealing with a preliminary issue in the employment tribunal on the question as to whether an individual is an employee or self-employed.
