The Deregulation Act 2015 was passed into law on 26 March 2015 and it makes significant changes to the law on residential tenancy deposits. The legislation has retrospective application with the effect that certain landlords holding deposits in connection with an assured shorthold tenancy (AST) must register those deposits with an authorised scheme by the end of 23 June 2015; or face potential financial penalties for non-compliance.
